Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! Aren't my mom's Halloween decorations cute? I swear she could be the decorating stylist for a magazine! Halloween is probably my favorite holiday, even though I haven't really had a chance to go all out with it this year. I will be hopefully handing out candy after class, dressing up and maybe hitting the town for a little bit (but not too late cause I have work in the morning!)

So have a great day and enjoy this spooky picture I took a few years ago at a museum:

Pumpkin Carving and How to Carve a Pumpkin Like a Man!

So tonight Devin and I finally carved pumpkins! It only took us 8 years of our relationship to carve pumpkins together. We are such dorks.
Anyway, we went the non traditional route when it came to our pumpkins and got a small white one and a tall one with weird warty like things.
The white one was easy to carve. I drew the design and Devin did most of the carving. I like to think of it as me being the art director and him the production crew.
The warty one on the other hand, was super duper thick. Devin had to hack away at that thing until he got the top off of it and decided that there was no way that we were going to carve into that. So then I mentioned that you can drill holes in pumpkins and the drill was brought out. Mike came and helped drill holes. It was a very manly activity.

Once we were finally finished we added some tea lights and put them out on the front porch!
They turned out super cute! Now I just hope the squirrels don't eat them! Have a wonderful Halloween! xoxo, emily

Sneak peek at what I've been working on: Graphic Design 2 edition!

Even though I'm only taking 12 credits this semester, I'm still just as busy. Maybe it's because I work around 20-40 hours a week on top of school. Or maybe because I live with 5 other people and things can get crazy sometimes. Or maybe it's because my four classes have a larger workload. In reality, it's probably because I'm getting old and that's just how life is. (ha ha, oh I hope not)

Anyway, this is what I've making for my Graphic Design 2 class. We had to pick (or make up) a company and rebrand them. Since I love/miss camp and summer, I picked the camp I've worked at the last three summers.
Here's the (mostly) final result:

I'm so happy with it. I'm not sure if I want to keep it tilted or have it go straight up and down yet. But I love the colors and the texture. So happy I figured out how to do textures in Illustrator. Maybe I'll do a little tutorial on it since there really aren't very many out there.

Well, there's a little sneak peek at my busywork. I still have to do extra stuff to go with the rebranding- letterheads, business cards, etc. So I'm sure when I'm all done I'll post it!

Class is about to start, so I'm going to log off Blogger and pay attention!

Sick of being sick

Why is it that I always end up getting sick this time of year? It probably doesn't help that Wisconsin has pretty much turned into the rainiest place ever the past two weeks. I just wanted nice, sunny, cool fall days. Instead I get rainy, dreary, chilly days. Not cool Wisconsin, not cool.

Weekend Recap: Sharp Shooter!

So along with the Zombie Crawl, me, Devin and our roommate Mike went out to the shooting range Saturday afternoon. I have hardly ever shot before in my life- minus a pellet gun and the time I tried shot gun at camp last summer. So needless to say, the range was a little overwhelming. For one, I looked completely out of place. I was wearing coral pink skinny jeans, a purple coat and a cute blue knit hat. Everyone else was wearing camo.

We started with pistol first. I definitely felt like a badass, even though my aim wasn't the greatest.

We were aiming for the little sharpied dots.
After shooting pistol for a while, we snagged a rifle bench and did some of that.
The scope wasn't set, so I was way off, but my bullets were all close together, which is apparently a good thing! :) And lastly, we shot an M4. This was terrifying. Well, sort of. This gun is heavy! (I'm also a total wimp though)

All in all, it was a pretty fun expirence, but I think the only shooting I'm going to stick to is with my camera. xo, Emily

Weekend Recap: Zombie Crawl!

So this weekend was the Menomonie Zombie Crawl, which was basically where you dress up like zombies and run around town and get great deals all night. And it's super fun to do zombie makeup. I ended up going with all my girl friends since poor Devin was sick all weekend :(. But it turned into a super fun zombie girl's night! Our group had some pretty clever zombie themes - I was Zombie Deschanel(Zombified Zooey haha), my roomies were zombie runners, my one friend was a zombie hippie and the other was a zombie Courtney Love.
The night was full of half off food, tasty drink specials and dancing! It was a very successful Zombie Crawl! Next year's will be even better!

Free dirt cake!

This kid is such a dork. And I love him.
Yesterday we had a mini cutesy couple photo shoot at the little block park by our house. It was nice to finally get some recent photos of us.
Tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut. I'm so excited. I'm thinking of doing a Zooey Deschanel thing. (She's my fave!)
This weekend is the Menomonie Zombie Crawl and I'm so excited to dress up as a zombie for a day and hang out with my friends. The rest of my weekend is full of work, so Saturday will be a nice break. Work has been a bit ridiculous lately. I've been working a ton- most of my paychecks had at least 50 hours on them (I'm part time since I'm also a full time student) and while the money's great, I just could use a little bit of a break sometimes.

Well, I'm off to GD2. Maybe I'll post what I've been working on later.

Foodie Friday: Cajun Chicken Pasta

So I don't know if you've ever been to Red Lobster, but they have this pasta called Cajun Chicken Pasta, and considering that I'm not much of a seafood fan (I like some fish), this is what I usually order. I was quite happy to learn that I can easily make it myself! It's super delicious and fairly simple!

Step 1: Put on some country music. I mean, come on! You're going to be making Cajun Chicken Pasta, you need a little country going on. I recommend these:

Step 2: Start boiling water for your pasta and chop up your veggies. Also, through a pan on the stove, medium heat, and add two tablespoons of butter or oil. Once the pan is hot, toss your veggies inside and saute them. (I didn't have any mushrooms on hand)

Step 3: Add pasta to the boiling water. Cube your chicken, put in a bowl, add Cajun spices and mix it until the chicken is coated. Add chicken to the pan and cook with the veggies. Once cooked, reduce heat and add half and half. Simmer.

Step 4: Drain your pasta and add it to the sauce/veggie/chicken mix.
Step 5: Stir dat pasta up.

Step 6: Add some fresh chives or green onions as a garnish, put on a plate and enjoy!

Cajun Chicken Pasta adapted from Food.com

1 boneless, skinless chicken breast
2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning( I usually just eyeball it)
Olive oil
1/2 green pepper
1/2 red pepper
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1 green onion, chopped (I used fresh chives from my parents' garden, close enough haha)
1 cup half and half
Salt and pepper to taste
Pasta

Boil water for pasta. Chop veggies and chicken. Add olive oil to a hot pan.
Saute veggies. Add pasta to water. Add chicken and cajun seasoning to pan with veggies. Cook chicken.
Drain pasta. Add half and half to pan with chicken and veggies. Simmer.
Add pasta to pan with sauce. Toss.
Garnish with green onion and serve! Enjoy! :)

Summer's Coming To An End

Well I am mostly back from camp. All sessions are over with and all my things are back in my parents house waiting to head to the house at school. I'm heading back to camp this weekend because I got into the Order of the Arrow. For those that aren't familiar, Order of the Arrow is sort of a fraternity in the Boy Scouts and it's all about cheerful service. You get elected in by your peers. I'm going to be working on my Ordeal this weekend, which is the first level of membership. I'm pretty excited. :)
Anyway, here's a few instagram pics from the summer.

Camp-ward bound!

Well I am leaving for camp! I'm really excited for this summer and all the adventures! I don't have Internet access up there so I'll try to post once a week if I can. Otherwise, farewell Internet world! Enjoy your summers! :)

Lately...

I have been so busy getting things ready for camp, moving into the new house, etc. (also I'm trying to write this post on my iPhone so hopefully it works and doesn't look weird or something.)
Here are a few pictures of this past week or so.

1. Brittany standing in to show how big my room is so I could send the picture to Devin.
2. Stupid Tupperware. Unpacking is annoying. Especially when you have this much Tupperware.
3. The kitchen's starting to look really cute!
4. Keeley, after eating strawberries off the vine at home. Cute little brat.
5. Black bean burger and creamy mexican corn casserole. Yum yum yum.
6. May's Chaco tan. Pretty impressive I must say. I've been wearing them like crazy.

EDIT: Mobile app sucks for making posts with pictures. Ughhhhh.... Oh well!

P.S. I'm heading to camp on Saturday! Ahhh! I'll post more about it later this week!
