Most Stressful Semester = DONE!

So I meant this post for last week, but I got so swept up with all the Christmas hubbub that I didn't finish writing it on time. So here it is! :)

I am so so glad this semester is finally over. I think having so many tough studio classes, plus super early work shifts, living two miles from campus and my first time living with my boyfriend all caused me to be mega stressed and exhausted all the time. Now that all my projects are done, I feel so relieved.
Wanna see some of what I was working on this semester?

Chip board armor for Design Concepts and Problems (those are all little folded fortune tellers, or "Cootie Catchers")

This was my super stressful group project for the same class. Board game - Trapped in Time

My final piece for Design Concepts and Problems. It holds twelve bananas.
Logos for Graphic Design 1.
Poster for Graphic Design 1.

I had a few other projects in between all of these, but they weren't really anything special, so I'm not going to post them. I'm so glad that Design Concepts and Problems is done. I am not very good with three dimensional work. Hence the whole multimedia thing.
Alright, I seriously should go to bed now. Haha. Good night!

NEW LOOK!

So I FINALLY got around to designing my layout! I'm pretty happy with it so far, and I'll be adding little tweaks here and there! It feels so great to finally be able to design something for fun instead of for school!
Well, I'm off to bed in a few minutes! Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season so far!

Can't sleep - or don't want to

It's practically four in the morning and technically the day after Christmas. WHY AM I STILL AWAKE?

Monday Melodies: First Aid Kit

I know a lot of other bloggers do a sort of Music Monday feature. Maybe it's because Mondays can be rough, and a lot of us feel better during the day by listening to music. I know I always do! I always like hearing other people's favorite music, so here's some of mine! This week, I'm sharing First Aid Kit with you!

First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo of sisters Johanna and Klara. Their music is full of beautiful vocal harmonies and just makes me think of being outdoors and in the woods.

Also, does anyone know of any other ways of sharing music on here? I want to be able to upload some of my own mp3's, since some of my favorites aren't on youtube!

21st Birthday & 21 Goals

So, this post was intended for my birthday - Novemer 14th. A bit of a fail on my part, haha. I've been so busy lately and I can not wait for finals to be over and for winter break to finally happen. I'm so sick of worrying about grades, projects and money.
Anyway - I just turned 21! Very exciting and awesome, and I love being able to order fun drinks off those colorful drink menus at restaurants. It also makes me realize that I really am starting to grow up and that I am a young adult now. I know I need to take more responsibility in my life, so I decided to come up with 21 goals to accomplish before next year. I've seen quite a few bloggers do this before and I find it to be very inspiring! So here's my list:

1. Finally get my driver's license: So I've never gotten my driver's license. Sometimes I feel really anxious when driving, so I don't have the most experience with it. But at the same time I'm so sick of having to ask people for rides and I feel bad that I still don't have it. I know what I need to work on, so now I just need to practice more and more.

2. Learn how to sew: I got a sewing machine for Christmas in seventh or eighth grade and I haven't used it since. It's a really nice machine and I really want to be able to sew my own dresses.

3. Lose twenty pounds: So I know this is like the biggest goal for a lot of people, but for me I really think this is something I can accomplish. I've already lost the 15 lbs I've put on in college, and now I'd like to lose the 20 I gained my senior year of high school.

4. Get a tattoo: I have a couple of tattoo ideas and I really want to get one already! I'm a little afraid of the pain, but I know it will be worth it! I'll post my tattoo ideas later!

5. Get great at styling my hair: When I was a little kid, I used to wear my hair in a huge braid going down to my waist. Now I usually just wash my hair and let it air dry and don't really do anything fun with it. I want to get good at doing my hair and create cute hairstyles.

6. Cook authentic Mexican food: I love Mexican food. A lot. And I know the kind I've had isn't truly that authentic, but I'd love to be able to cook more authentic dishes instead of American-style tacos. I want to learn to cook other international cuisines as well.

7. Read at least 2 books a month: I love reading, but I've been terrible about doing it! I was so busy this year that I never had time to read much for fun. When I did finally have time, it was so great and relaxing to get lost in a book. I'm hoping I can bump this up from two a month to one a week! We'll see though!

8. Procrastinate less: This one speaks for itself. I need to start doing projects as soon as I get them instead of waiting until the last minute.

9. Create more: Draw more, design more, make more, etc. Generally just be more creative.

10. Develop a healthy routine: Currently my schedule is very scattered, and because of this I don't go to bed at the same time every night, or get up at the same time. My time to work out and take care of myself are really scattered as well. I want to get into a healthy routine that I can stick with all year.

11. Re-organize my wardrobe: My closet is a mess. I never know what to pair with what either. I want to organize everything into outfits and make it easier to find things.

12. Blog a few times a week: I'm so terrible at this! Haha! It's hard when you're first starting out and don't have a lot of readers or followers. But I need to remind myself that this is for me and also for fun. I hope I'll come up with some weekly blog features too!

13. Discover a new hobby: I'd love to try something completely new to me, like skateboarding or something. I guess I'll see what new things I try this next year!

14. Enjoy the outdoors: This includes more hiking, camping, canoeing, etc!

15. Become a Boy Scout: Okay, this one needs some more clarification, haha! I work at a Boy Scout camp, and I got a copy of the Scout handbook. I basically want to learn all the skills in the handbook. (minus the stuff that's about boy's health and fitness, since I am a 21 year old girl haha) I want to learn all the knots, camping skills, etc. It should be pretty fun!

16. Start doing yoga: There are times that I get really stressed out and feel like I can't relax. Once when I couldn't fall asleep I tried a short yoga routine and I was able to relax and slept great! I want to do yoga regularly so I can feel better about myself and less stressed.

17. Discover new design inspiration: Discover new designers, styles, history, etc. Just spend more time focusing on design and art.

18. Learn to make awesome drinks: Hey, I am 21 now! I want to create my own little bar at home and be able to make fun drinks at home!

19. Carry a sketchbook with me at all times: This goes with number 9. I used to draw all the time when I was younger and now I only find myself doing it for assignments or while I should be taking notes in class! :O

20. Learn to swim better: I certainly don't sink in water, but I don't feel comfortable swimming under water or where I can't touch. I want to become a stronger swimmer!

21. Live everyday to the fullest: Life is short! At least a fifth of my life is over, and I don't want to waste my life away not experience everything I want!

I plan on coming back to this post next year on November 14th and we'll see if I accomplished everything! :)

About Me!

Alright, so although I'm pretty sure no one reads my little blog (hey, you've got to start somewhere!), I figure I should probably do an About Me post!

My Halloween costume this year - I was a pig!

My name is Emily!
I am a college junior studying Multimedia Design and Photography! I will be 21 in less than 2 weeks!

He's such a dork. But I love him!

This is Devin, my amazing boyfriend of 7 years. He always knows how to make me laugh. :)

Goofing off before flag.

We work at the same Boy Scout Camp over the summer along with a bunch of our friends. It's definitely been a life changing experience for me! I've met some incredible people and learned so much about myself and who I want to be.

Camp Girls! Mary, Brittany, Me and Lauren this past Saturday at a wedding

During the school year, I work on campus setting up technical equipment for all sorts of events. It can be a tough job sometimes, but it's a lot of fun and I get to work with some real fun people! When I'm not busy with school, work or camp (which to be honest, isn't very often!) I enjoy being outdoors, surfing the Internet, shopping and watching Doctor Who with my boy.

Well, that's pretty much it. I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little bit.

College Sick Day

So you know those days when you weren't feeling good, so your mom called your school and told them you were sick? And then you proceeded to sit on the couch and eat your packed lunch from your lunch box and watch TV all day? You don't really get those kind of days in college.

Unless the professors for your two classes that day are also sick. As was my case today.
I got my morning shift covered by someone else so I was able to sleep until 9:15. I checked my e-mail in bed and found out that both of my classes were cancelled! Which was perfect because I was still feeling like crap.

So I pretty much spent my whole day on the couch watching Pretty Little Liars on my laptop. It was quite relaxing.

Also- I sort of fail at blogging so far. I promise I'll start writing more. For reals.

New Layout In Progress

Once I have some more time I'm going to try and make my own layout for this thing. Being a multimedia design major, I should be able to come up with something simple like this.

I'm not a huge fan of this current one either. It's alright, but not really my style.
Also: I need to take more pictures. I'll have to try and bring my camera with me wherever I go.

Relaxing Post-Homecoming

Yesterday was Homecoming. I didn't bother going to the game; we lost. I had a feeling that we were going to. Instead we just lounged around the apartment and went to get Mexican food.

We went to El Patio, which is one of three Mexican places in town, and while it's certainly not the best Mexican food I've had, it's cheap and still pretty delicious.

I got a huge burrito that looked sort of like this one, except drizzled with green sauce.

Seriously. I could eat green sauce on anything. I need to look up a good recipe and make it myself. Likewise, I need to find some place that sells Chihuahua cheese. That stuff is fabulous.

The rest of last night wasn't all that exciting. We went to a friend's house and had a pretty good time. I had to go to bed at a semi-decent time since I had a work meeting at 10 am the next day.

Speaking of said work meeting, usually we have a day long sitting around talking about various things. It's usually pretty boring and the only incentive for going is that it's mandatory and you get paid all day.
This morning was completely different, as we instead went to the park for the morning for some "team-building" disc golf. And then we got groceries and had a cook out at one guy's house.

We grilled brats, burgers, cheddarwurst and chicken legs. In October! I got sunburned! In October! In Wisconsin! And I got paid to do all of it! It was great!
I am now going to finish my Graphic Design assignment and watch lots of Doctor Who.

Until tomorrow,
XO Em

First Post!

I have no idea what I should say here, haha.
But, welcome to my new blog! I'm hoping I can use this as personal type blog about my life, school, photography, art and of course, food!

Ummm... yeah.
Well, it's homecoming, so check back later and I'll post something more substantial.
